Is Qatar a good choice to start a business?

Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world. Moreover, some of the strong reasons to start a business in Qatar include political and economic stability, high-quality infrastructure, and one of the lowest corporation tax rates in the world (10%). Many multinational corporate organisations have established offices in Qatar as a result of the country's oil riches and fast-growing economy. The country can offer you a wide range of business opportunities to grow and you can choose the one that goes with your interest and passion.

  • Interior Designing

  • Fitness Centre

  • Restaurant Business

  • Maintenance Services

  • Delivery Business

  • Financial Services

  • IT-Related Business

are worth considering.

Requirements to start a company in Qatar

Qatar's government has issued some instructions on company formation in Qatar.

The first step in this regard is name reservation; applicants must reserve a name for their business, that goes with countries regulations. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce is in charge of this.

Drafting of  Memorandum of Association Is the next step. This is the document that outlines the company's mission as well as other pertinent information.

After the Articles of Association have been correctly written, they must be attested by the Ministry of Justice, and each subscriber will be given a copy of this document after it has been authorised.

The firm can apply for a tax card and a trading licence when the Articles of Association are validated.

After obtaining a trade licence, the firm can apply for a computer card or establishment card from the Ministry of Interior.

What about a foreigner?

The first step in starting a business in Qatar for a foreigner is to hire a service agent/sponsor. A strong sponsor or a capable local partner may be a formidable weapon when dealing with government agencies. Following that, the foreign or domestic firm must apply for a commercial licence from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI).

The Commercial Companies Law lays out all of the necessary paperwork and processes. Furthermore, all legal contracts must be written in Arabic, and these versions will take precedence over the English translation. Legal Translation in Qatar helps you with the same.

To operate in Qatar, foreign company owners and investors are frequently required to create a private Limited Liability Company (LLC). The firm must have two owners and minimum authorised share capital of QAR 200,000. Foreign investors can typically possess up to 49 per cent of the share capital, with one or more Qatari partners holding the remaining 51 per cent.

What are the main business challenges you should be aware of before starting your business in Qatar or anywhere around the globe?

  • Reputation: Making a proactive effort to build a great culture is a smart notion since your honesty and trust begin from within the organisation. This is also beneficial to employees, who are the ones who are most affected by their reputation. The challenge lies in building trust. Your hard work and smart work matters here.

  • Marketing: You're well aware that you'll need to promote your company in order to reach or remain visible to your target market. However, like with most small firms, there are more immediate operational concerns that require your attention. Your time will be consumed with operational concerns, and you will find it difficult to devote any time to marketing. A proper marketing plan is surely gonna help you.

  • Competition: Maintaining competitiveness, or even being competitive in the first place, is one of the most difficult problems a company has. Business is itself a competition. In order to stand out from the crowd, you need to offer unique and exclusive products or services that can’t be found elsewhere.
